Mint Rubbing - Our National Sport [this will not amuse you. sorry] So, we've rubbed some mint in the past few issues of this journal; industrial-grade mint rubbing, heavy-duty mint rubbing - all flavors. Well, that's what we all do - from me and you (yes, you, the one reading this article) to them (yes, you know them, they are always on the news - they go in their bmw's and mercedeses to rub some mint and decide our fate for another 10 years). ![]() Take a moment to look around you (that is, if you're fortunate enough to live in Romania; if not, turn on the TV set): we have double-digit yearly inflation rates (this means that this year you buy only 2 apples with the same money that bought 3 apples last year); we have average monthly wages at around 100$; we live in one of the poorest countries in Europe, while other former communist states prosper; there has been no significant economical progress since 1989; the state still owns a significant part of the economy and the privatisation process is slow, inefficient and unfair; we need visas to travel abroad; corruption, poverty and crime are widespread. oh yeah, and there is no clear program for getting out of this mess. "so what does this have to do with me?" you will ask. "i was fortunate enough to be born here and i pay my toll". and you will whine. and you will be right in a way: mediocre people decide our future and lead us; mediocre people tell us what to do; and lots of other mediocre people follow.so we agree on this. but what did you do about it? take a minute to think about this. what did you do today? yesterday? last year? sorry, I couldn't hear you. you went to work from 8 to 4 and rubbed some mint? got a salary for rubbing mint? rubbed some more mint with your friends and whined? oh yes how you whined. and that's about it. you did nothing. so just do something for a change. yes, you motherfucker. wipe that stupid smile off your face. just do something.anything. just me and you - we could begin to change this shit (wfoster. Article featured on sictir.org, march 2001) ![]() Last month we had one featured site: sictir.org (you should still check this one from time to time, it has regular updates). This month, we're proud to announce not one but three featured sites. Remember that we only feature sites we think are worthy for the dedicated mint rubber. So you should at least check them out. As usual, if you like them spread the word. And now, we shall begin: ![]() The first site to receive the honour this month is www.dbrom.net - Din Basmele Romanilor. Good essays, eye-opening (deschidere de ochi) and thought-putting (punere pe ganduri) materials. Should be checked carefully with maximum attention. ![]() On the lighter side, a site that shouldn't be missed: Pomul Vietii - The Society for Applied Metaphysics. Promising debut, should be checked out. ![]() And on the really lighter side, must to be checked out for 5 to 10 minutes of amusement Hai Sa Vezi - Legatura care nu merge. | ||||
